Cold weather oil for 1984 GL1200 Interstate

Hey guys am in Ontario Canada

Currently use Rotella T HD 15W40 Diesel oil, but need a cheap thinner 10w40 just for a month or so until warmer weather comes

Anybody know about Moto Master 10 w40 motorcycle oil, does not say Jas MA2 on label but can tire online tech guy assures it is MA2 JAS

Dont have all the great options US guys have, also am in a small town with just Can Tire and Home Hardware, so really only Can Tire is my option

Will be going back to rotella t 15W40 before June

Cheaper is one thing but asking for a thinner 10W-40 is like asking for a lighter 2kg sack of flour (or whatever)

10W-40 is the specification for viscosity (thinness if you will)

Switching to 10W-30 or 5W-30 or 0W-20 or some other grade of oil would get you thinness.

check your owner's manual to see what's recommended (0W-20 is certainly NOT)

Hello Leroy and welcome to the forum. The 10W40 tag describes the oils viscosity or its ability to flow at different temperatures. You will need an oil that is rated at 5W40 for an oil that flows better at lower temperatures.

I use Rotella T 15W40 NOT 10w40 as I laughingly misstated, my bad

As for my manual, 1984 Clymer its before JAS MA2 standards and just says sae 30, 40 and 1 other

We know now how important the correct oil is

Have read a lot last 24 hours, looks to me like Moto Master 10w40 motorcycle oil will due me just fine for the first 30 days or so of the season

Also as I corrected myself already I am running Rotella T 15W40 NOT 1040 as I said...my bad

Thanks for the input, so 15W40 to 10W40 should help, I was unsure about the Moto Master 10w40 claim that it was actually MA2 JAS approved, because of the fact that its no longer written on the bottle, guy from Can Tire tech says was only a error and will soon be back on the label

I found a old thread on this forum from 2007 the Administrator actually and he said the MotoMaster 10W40 Motorcycle oil was very good, that was main reason I signed up here was to run it by the fellow

So after 24 hours PLus research, I am confident I can use this oil, also discovered that Moto Master motorcycle oil is made by Shell

Just make sure it is rated for your wet clutch. The manual will give you all the jargon.

I love living here! I don't have to worry about all those 'other' oils. 30 is justttttt fine
