oh really now? tell that to the donut eater who stuck my last ticket in between my seat in clear view. too bad he didnt get the make right, NOR did he even put the date of the parking infraction. i am standing trial hoping to beat the ticket. its night court so no loss of work and i dont feel like spending the 50 fine when there were clearly no signs NOT to park. ive took pictures as backup just for the hell of it. maybe for once ill get lucky.

Depending on where it is, I try to park on the sidewalk at grocery stores. They usualy have big wide sidewalks that allow plenty of room for a bike parked paralel to the wall. When there isn't a place to park where cars don't go, I try to make sure and line the tail of my bike up with the rear bumper of the car next to me (of the end of the line if there's noone) and pull in at an opposite angle than the parking spots go so that the bike is visible to cars coming down the row. I'm still paranoid of some freak in a stationwagon (aka SUV/Minivan) is gonn swing into the spot without seeing it.

I've never had problems parking up on sidewalks, walkways, in front of bars (on the walkway), etc.

However, the only place I've been ticketed for parking where I'm not supposed to was on the beach. That was in Key West, so that's expected (PS, in Key West they'll bring you in from Alaska on a traffic violation).

I should mention that parking illegally is not a regular habit of mine. I do it when necessary and/or convenient, but am usually in a legal parking stall.

Out of the way but never in striped zones next to handicap spaces. Just bad karma. I'll pull right up to the doors in some places if there's room. I've had some of those security guards in the golf carts try to stare me down or give me the evil eye but I've never had a problem otherwise.

Now watch- tomorrow I'll get a ticket or some cage will figure out some way to smash my bike.

At home my bikes get chained up together and to heavy duty Iron beams.I would park them in my apartment if I could figure out how to get them up the stairs...

We have car guards at a lot of our parking lots and shopping malls, It's common for us to park close to the mall doors and then pay a car guard to watch over your bike. More to stop stupid idiotic parents for allowing their kids to climb on the bike and push buttons. I have even caught adults sitting on my bike and they get upset and tell me "I was only looking" when I throw a wobbly at them.

When I was in Kelwona a couple of weeks ago, I came out of my motel room and found the fat bastid staying in the next room sitting on my bike. He didn't try to get off it, or even acknowlage my presence, so walked over to his new truck, tryed the door(unlocked) and jumped into his truck. He got mad  .

I asked him why his vehicle was so special, after all if he could plunk his fat azz on my bike and start twisting the throttle, and messing with buttons, why couldn't I sit in his truck and screw with his radio pre-sets? He had no answer, just a threat of physical harm. Upon being invited to enact his threat, he suddenly became very meek and avoided eye contact. Then his friend came out and took in the situation, and told buddy to get off my bike and that I had a piont. After that, he always parked his truck halfway into my parking spot, as close to my bike as he could. He got a few scratches on his door from my foot being swung over the bike and hitting his door, but I guess he was O.K. with that, as he never mentioned it to me. But anytime I heard his door closing when he came out, I would open my door and watch my bike as he got in his truck, commenting about how he had to squeeze into his truck with the door only slightly open, but he never really got it.

That would just infuriate me if some one got on my bike without permission or me being there. If they damaged or even managed to tip over the 460lbs of bike I would just lose my mind. If they got hurt they would probably sue me. I don't know how people could even think that it would be ok to get on some absent stranger's motorcycle. They would certainly freak out if I was in their car when they came out- oh sorry just wanted to try it out- sorry about that dent in the door man...

I am not glad that I am the only one but it is absolutly freeking amazing that people think it is OK to do this. My bike costs more than some cars and yet people have no qualms about sittting on the bike, never mind that I only have a side stand and if that falls over I am in for some serious money spending. Some people are totally ignorant.

This is amazing... I always thought that folks respected others property.
All the folks I've hung with over the years [bikers and/or cagers] would NEVER think of getting on someone's bike, or in their car/truck, with out their express permission.

That's why I was soooo surprized when the following happend....
Three days after I bought my current ride, I parked it in a regular space at the local University bookstore. Came out 20 minutes later to see her tipping over as some jerk jumped of her and split. :furious: I gave chase but lost him. Filed a police report, but don't expect any result. The damage was only minor - less than the deductable on my ins. policy.

I don't get it. Like Buzz's truck guy..
and jumped into his truck. He got mad
.. folks have the idea that cars/trucks are off-limits to strangers, but bikes are fair game..... :?

As far as parking on sidewalks - unless I'm downtown in a city w/o regular parking, I don't do it. Too concerned that some kid will touch my pipes and get burnt

Pity the jerk that sat on your bike did'nt get burnt. Don't worry the wheels of destiny will turn and he will get his turn one day.
