As far as I know, we let anyone in, for any reason. Hell we will even pay you and give you 5 years tax-free status. If they do give you a hard time, just tell them someone was picking on you and this upset you. Then your become a shoe-in for entry, free money and anything else you ask for. Then some government agency will call on you in a week or so, after your settled into your free accomodations and make arrangements for your family to join you, on us taxpayers of course. If you don't have any family(or they just don't feel like joining you) you can substitute friends for family.
We treat all foreigners like kings. It's the people born here and paying taxes that have no rights. Someone has to pay for it, I guess.
Apparently I'm fighting for my rights, and someone else's - coulda fooled me... We are hardly the government - and I speak for you civilians - I waived all my rights when I enlisted (read the fine print, I'm not a citizen, I'm property). Sure we elect "representatives", but by and large they're self serving entirely - whatever they can get away with on a whim and get re-elected - or get a book deal.
Holy Cow, Dean, I got some bad info somewhere--sounds like Canada treats immigrants just like the US. Give us your tired, your poor, and we will give them everything they need. Cash, housing, medical care, bonding with ethnic gangs, whatever.

About the only difference I can see between the 2 countries in this matter is the US will only do that if your dirt poor and willing to do a crappy job that no home-grown American wants. Here, we take everyone and give them everything with no questions asked, even the rich ones. That's why them bloody terrorists all hold Canadian passports. We pass them out free with McHappy Meals up here.
my only complaint about canada is the cold weather. I think Wyoming is as far north as I am willing to live. Gets bloody cold enough here.

most canadians I have met have been pretty friendly (every country has its "Donut Holes", canadas seem to mostly hang out in Quebec). Crazy "O Ring" drivers though LOL. Did a late night run through toronto on the QE2 a few years ago when driving out here from back east, driving at 110km/h we were getting passed by EVERYTHING at a high rate of speed. Montreal was about the same way when there wasn't bumper to bumper traffic. Learned to read french roadsigns in a hurry.
One guy I dealt with over the phone for a previous job was from ontario, and did the stereotypical "eh?" at the end of each sentence. Nice guy, just gave me a chuckle that there really are canadians that end their sencences with "eh?".
Was actually planning a trip up to Canada sometime in the next year or so. Looking at BC this time. Every other trip through canada was through Ontario, Quebec, and NB.
My biggest problem with this place is the weather too.
I've been walking around for 6 months now loudly blitchin' and cryin' about the dam weather. I am sick to death of being cold 99% of the time. Very soon now, winter will craap on my world again and it will be another 9 months of only ever being really comfortable in bed or in the shower....
I think there was a mix-up at the factory.... I was sposed to be born in Jamacia.
If I could get SoCal without the congestion and the peoples republick of Kalifornia that would be perfect. Perfect weather, not too hot, never gets cold (their idea of cold is our idea of t shirt weather), and sunny most of the time. Arizona isn't too bad though the heat can be a bit much at times, at least AZ doesn't have the BS bureacracy that Cali has.
Wyoming really isn't too bad if you dont mind it being cold 6 months out of the year. It can snow year round here and its not uncommon to see snow in early june or the tail end of august. Snow on labor day weekend happens at least every few years. Summers here can be scorchers. 90+ is norm for mid june through mid august and 100+ is not uncommon during a heat wave.
By contrast below 0F temps are a regular occurance in the winter as is wind chills in the -40F range. dont get a lot of snow, just a lot of wind and cold.
Oddly the worst part of our winters are usually February thru April as that is when we get most of our snow. Its been a pretty regular occuance in the last few years to have 40-50F temps in January. And both of the last El Nino cycles caused 50-60F temps through most of january durning those years. The downside were all the blizzards in march and april in those years. Its also pretty standard to have snow on the ground at halloween here.
I've spent a month or two at a time down in the States a few times. Wyoming is very much like the prairie provinces up here, 'cept you guys got billboards along the hiway . Cali would be nice if, like you say, the population was smaller(there are more legal peolpe in Cali than all of Canada, throw in the illegals and who knows) and the tree huggers were thinned out some.
My favorite part of the whole continent, so far, is the Southern States. I could very easily live anyplace east of Oklahoma and south of Ohio. I love it down there.
