Thanks for the replies guys. It turns out that nothing was bent on the front end, and I got it aligned without any problems (just loosen off a couple bolts, and muscle it over). I fixed my headlight brackets and a few other bits. The only damage to the bike seems to be cosmetic (crash bar is slightly bent, scratched exhaust, etc.) I'm glad it didn't turn out worse.

Ha! I knew I liked Loonette for a reason! We think alikescanevalexec wrote:Funny Kaige! My wife (Loonette) is the same way with her bike. One day I thought for a change of pace I'd take her bike for a spin and she had major difficulty saying okay. But truth be told I already gave her almost brand new bike a little flaw trying to move it without the lock off. Now I just consider that hers and mine is mine.![]()
I just remember too on the topic of allowing a Dad to ride. My Dad told me back in the 50s some guy offered to let him try a bike for a spin. He rode across a parking lot and into the side of a garage. He decided bikes weren't his thing. Just last year I gave him a ride on Loonette's old bike (Shadow 1100). He was thrilled, and he said he could see why I love it so much. But after his story, MSF would be required before a test ride on my bike.

Take whatever you like, but touching my bike or my man (if I had one currently) is plenty reason for me to punch your molars down your esophagus.

Despite having most of a spare CG in the yard and dropping her myself I am only inclined to let a handful of people ride my bike. Everyone on the list I've ridden with or been pillion with except Jules, and most of them have had a hand is fixing her up.
Jules is my partner and CeeGee is the only vehicle I have on the road so its been a tough choice. A solution came up at the weekend, we bought Jules a CX550 trike so she can learn bike controls. If something happens then we'll just get the Trike fixed without the added drama of me being off the road. When shes got that mastered and is comfortable then we'll take CeeGee out, if CeeGee gets damaged then its no real stress as I'll have the CX until CeeGee is back on the road.
That said even though the law dosnt require any safety gear to ride a trike we arent taking the CX out unless we are both geared up.

what ive done some with noobs is "if u can start it u can ride it"!
i think its dumb to start it up for them and all ...
last week a guy asked if he could take his gf for a spin...!!
and i knew he couldnt ride.. its kinda hard to say no ...but...

My bike is pretty easy to ride. If I know for a fact that they ride - now, not 15 years ago, then I'll let someone ride my bike. I mostly hang out with responsible adults. I can't imagine them wrecking it and not INSISTING that they repair it. If you haven't rode a bike competently and recently, then that's another story. I live across the street from work and have two cars so I loan out my car and truck relatively frequently. So far, they've always come back undamaged and with a full tank. I'm trying to build up karma points. As far as borrowing a bike for a test drive, I'd have to know the person pretty darn well - I'd be too scared there would be a mishap that I'd have to make good on. I did ride my brother-in-law's Vulcan 750 recently, but he's family so I'm not sure that counts. Well, I guess it would have counted if I'd wrecked it! Luckily there were no problems.

One of the local dealerships gave a demo ride to a perspective customer on a K1200S. One Km later and this guy overcooked a corner and slammed into a guard rail. Totalled the bike and was in a coma for two weeks. Too many broken bones and a punctured lung. This was an experianced rider. The problem "they think" was that he was only used to the boxer motors and got caught by the power of the brick. Now I do not let anyone on my bike.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
