In this state he would be the typical cruiser rider. Few cruiser riders here wear lids. Then again many of the sportbike riders dont either. Among the riders I know personally only about 50% of em wear lids. thankfully the friend of mine that was in an accident last week is one of those that does wear gear.
When I see riders on the street here probably less than half of em wear a lid.
Though the worst rider ive seen here is a squid that lives in my neighborhood, rides a VERY loud R1 with shorts/t shirt and usually only after slamming a few brews. Im amazed he hasn't wrecked despite riding under the influence. Have seen this guy pull wheelies on the street several times, nearly jump the bike going over a nearby bridge, and his friends even videotape his stunts.
thankfully the guys in the military dont pull this stuff (we have an Air Force base in cheyenne). the majority of the military riders are in full gear with relective vests on (they have no choice on the gear or the vest if they want to ride on base).
of course they have good incentive not to do stupid "poo poo". If they get a ticket even off base, they cant drive/ride on base for one month, and can get a LOR if the offense is serious enough.

Actually, I think I'm more of a hooligan these days, though I was a squid years ago. I always wore decent(for the era) equipment, but I have looped out bikes, jumped bikes, and generally acted in a most squidly manner many times in the past. But I have ALWAYS enjoyed myself on motorcycles everytime I've been on one and more than most anything else in life. It's all about the fun. 
And there ain't nothing wrong with them there cruisers, Al. I just don't want to ride one. But I can understand that someone else might want to, and I have no problem with that. I might take the odd shot at them in jest, but I'll do that with anything. Bikes are entirely too dam fun to be taken that seriously.
Glad that your not really twisted about the helmet thing, Zoo. I'll just continue to watch as you throw the odd wobbly in there and take it as a vent and purge for you.
