FYI, rust is not magnetic albeit formed from iron. The best homebrew solution to treating rust inside your gas tank is to use the POR-15 package to seal up holes and get rid of rust inside. Earlier Kreem was all the rage, but the people found out it was an durable as promised

So far I havent heard any bad things about POR-15, and my own gas tank seems to be holding up pretty well. Of course if you'd like the correct professional finish take it to a shop that fixes radiators etc. and they will use preety much the same things except industrial strength.

Good luck with those Jawa torque specs. Unfortunately I can't help you. Now would be a good time to invest in a factory manual!

I like the por-15 tratement, but I think it's also complicated (4-step process) and if you don't get it right you could experience problems down the road.

What I usually do with an old tank is use some kind of acid (like muratic acid and water) or just soap and water and wash out the tank. Then drop a few nuts in there and shake up the tank good to loosen any stubborn dirt. As long as you wash the tank good and dry it out VERY WELL, you should have no more tank rust problems. If you go this route, It's also a good Idea to install an inline filter to catch any dirt that you might have missed. Also, periodic recleaning is never a bad idea. I reclean my '82 Yamaha tank usually once a year.

Jawa What?

#7 Unread post by Quick 350 »

I know this is off topic but I just picked up a Jawa today and know nothing about them.

This is no means my first bike and I'm highly mechanically inclined.

But my question to you is

What do I have here?

it's a 74 twin cylinder, two stroke, w/a single carb.

I don't know how many cc's and if it's 6 volt or 12

also if you could guide me in a direction for web info that would be great as well.

Thanks Mike

We have a lovely lady at work who recently emigrated from the Ukraine; I try to make her say as many words with the letter "R" as I can because she pronounces them with an intriguing soft rolling accent... MMMmmMmMmmm!!!
