Gas prices and Hummers

it's just life and business as usual around here, which is as it should be

That will change if gas keeps going up. It effects everyone, sure, but it affects the low income earners much more. When people have to work a day every week just to be able to get to work, they will make changes. I guarantee it.

Granted, but expecting to see Hummer owners garaging their trucks and waiting for a break in fuel prices is an exercise in futility. If one can afford a six-figure sport-ute, the cost of gasoline is not likely to ground their recreational plans.

In the short term, I'd expect not. This stuff takes a while. If gas continues to increase it will affect all us us in lots of ways. Airline tickets, food, building materials, everything is tied to oil in some way. The faster it rises, the faster the effect will take hold.

Yes, and capitalism has a way of working itself out. But it doesn't react in real-time to the events effecting prices, rather it is reactionary after the event much like the stock market. Bottom line is, I see nothing wrong with some Hummer owners out enjoying their vehicles. My dad and I just completed an entirely unnecessary 1019 mile trip to The Dragon and back, but I don't feel one bit of guilt for "wasting" that gasoline. Americans are among the most productive people on earth, yet we have the least amount of vacation time, especially when compared to many Europeans. So, when we find time and money to play, we play! And damn anyone who has a problem with that!

All I can say is I'm going to have to cut down on my riding time

I usually fill up once every 3 or 4 days. Looking at my stack of gas receipts I noticed a 50 cent climb in less than a week. Not cool.

When you think about the thousands of yachts that can take 1-4 thousand gallons of diesel running around, and the amount of people with ridiculous amounts of money (most of whom care about showing it more than the averge Joe....so they Spend it on stuff like Escalades gurgle....barf...), you'll understand that many people in America, unlike most people in europe, has much different opinions on raping natural rescources.

When the $6/gal comes, those already driving metros will be in more of a pinch, and most of those driving Hummers will laugh.

What I meant was if it keeps climbing I'm not going to be able to ride as much as I do now. I just finished my summer job and paid off my debts, so the money I have left over has to stretch out over the next 9 months. Unless I get a job during school but that would be a killer. Might do it anyway. Plan B is ebay all my possessions except the bike...

Fitty cents times ten, times 4 times a month. That's $20 bucks a month, which is nothing. A large gas bill will become like anything else for Americans...such as a large electric bill.

As a short wise asian man (my dad) told me once...to make lots of money, cut the expenses. I did. Now I work, with no school...and with only $1650 a month, I'll have a new bike before christmas - paid off.
