Can you drill fibreglass safely?
The single seat conversion which came with my bike has the bolt holes for the clip - to clip it to the bike - are an inch out! So the clips need to be re-positioned, requiring new holes drilled... can I do this with a regular drill without fear of cracking the shell or anything?

Also be careful of any stray fibers that may stick out until you sand them off. I just spent three days with a 3/8 inch long single fiber (rosin coated ) in my little finger. It was straight in the center of my fingerprint and nearly touching the bone. Got it out today, but I don't want it to happen to you. It hurts. I slipped and grabbed my tailpiece when I was sanding it after some new glass application, and drove that fiber right in. Wear eye protection too. If I had just put my gloves back on (lazy me), it wouldn't have happened.

Just protect yourself. Fiberglass, can hurt you a few different wys. Like BuzZz said, don't breath the dust, as it can be sharp even thought it's small. Cover your eyes, and protect your hands form stray fibers...that's probably all you need to worry about. If you ever decide to make something out of fiberglass, you also have organic vapors to deal with.

thats what duct tape is for.Henriettaah wrote:Well, I've marked where the bolt holes need to be as well as I can. I'm just about to go out and drill the holes - a little nervously, as if I f*ck it up - thats it f*ucked up I guess..! Can't have too many holes on a seat!
Wish me luck. I advance with my cup of tea, now.
