Going from an airbox to pods is doable, you just have to keep in mind that it might not be simple. The change from an airbox with a filter to less restrictive pods often will result in an excessively lean mixture in your carbs. The carb's jetting is based on the original intake, so you will possibly (probably) have to rejet.

A few other drawbacks to pods are that they are susceptible to odd wind conditions. Crosswinds, or even the normal airflow around your engine can disturb the flow going into the carbs. Some bikes don't have the problem, other bikes have lots of problems. One other consideration is rain. If you ride in rainy weather, the water can soak your pods and leave you on the side of the road.

All that said, some bikes do great with pods, others don't. You never really know what you'll get until you try it out (or find someone with your exact bike that already did).
