New 650 owner

#1 Unread post by Jim »

Hello Forum,

This is my first post so I don't know if I am doing
this right.

I have today just purchased my XJ650RJ Seca '82.

The starter button does not turn over the engine,
but to appy 12 volt directly to starter, it spins the
engine ok. I suspect a simple solution.

Check that the safty on off switch is on the on position. Also this system has a solenoid simular to the ford automobiles had in yrs past. Check that the connections are clean and tight. I owned an XJ650 maxim yrs. ago, it was one of the best bikes that I ever owned. Hope this helps you find the problem.

Thanks for the warm welcome and for
your advice.

The red/w wire to the starter solenoid
is not hot with the ignition switch on.
I am chasing continuity using the
diagram on the XJCD.

Will post pics as soon as I learn how.
