George W. Bush is an empty suit

wards of the welfare state, people selected, over decades, for their lack of initiative and self-induced helplessness.
Look, there are lazy people who won't take a well-paying job if offered one. And there were plenty of those types in the low-lying parts of New Orleans that got especially f**ked by Katrina.
But to characterize every one of those poor folks as lazy sods while ignoring the very real racism that contributed mightily to their condition is just plain wrong.
There are shades of grey here in this story folks, and people who deny that fact are just not thinking hard enough.
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. -- H.L. Mencken

Is it not a fact that there is an abundance of good news coming out of Iraq? But good news never gets reported, only casualty reports and suicide bombings. Kinda makes one wonder if there's an agenda at work...cb360 wrote:Report what? There wasn't a fact in the entire article. This will no-doubt never be reported by the Associated Press.

I'd hardly say there's an abundance of good news coming out of Iraq. I guess it's impossible that there's not any good news, but it's kinda hard to get too excited about it with all the dead bodies stacking up. Weird, with the US being welcomed as liberators and all.

The entire Iraq situation is a fiasco with no purpose. 'Freedom' is a joke. The arbitrary deadline for the constitution that was imposed only to satisfy mid-term elections has already been missed. Not that it'll work anyway. If the very small group of Iraqi insiders ever do agree enough to get something hammered out the whole document will be filled with enough Islamic law that it certainly wouldn't pass for real democracy. What do we expect ? It's an Islamic nation with divisions in their culture that go back thousands of years. Civil war is not far off whether we leave today or ten years from now. The only good thing to come from the 1500+ dead servicemen in Iraq is the removal of Saddam Hussein. What everyone forgets and the press has steadfastly ignored is that we are responsible for bankrolling Saddam and the Ba'ath from back in the early days when Iran was our big enemy. Didn't matter that he was already a murderous fanatic. He didn't like Iran just like we didn't so we gave him cash and support. The same as we did with a young Osama Bin Laden when he was a 'freedom fighter' with the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan against our enemies the Soviets. Wait and see - Iraq will spawn another despot bankrolled by the US. A nation can't impose democracy on another nation. We've learned this lesson time and time again and we've backed one crooked murderer after another. There would not be a Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden (certainly not of the infamous heights they ultimately reached) without the asinine foreign policy of the US. And we're doing it again. Who has $5 they want to bet that the first President of Iraq is A. assassinated, or B. Involved in massive corruption and human rights violations within 24 months? God bless the servicemen - they are brave and they sacrifice and they want to do right... unfortunately they are led by idiotic buffoons who don't don't have to suffer the consequences of their own poor decisions. They are trying to impose an American value system on a culture that is thousands of years old and they will fail miserably.

OK - just so you know, there were thousands of black people displaced by the hurricane who work their butts off just as there are plenty of white folks on the welfare rolls who are able-bodied and capable of working but choose not to. It's got nothing to do with race. Every race is full of good and bad in my experience.
