I'd like to introduce myself and ask a couple questions.

Hello everyone, I'm 15, 16 as of October 5 2005.

I used to ride on the back of a dirtbike when I was around 4 years old. I lived in Alberta and it was just an around the block or dirt road thing at about 5-10km/h so it wasn't much. However it's one of my earliest memories and ever since then I've wanted a motorcycle.

At 6 I moved to Boston. Still wanted a motorcycle and was able to recognize of fondness for sport bikes or something naked like a honda 599.

So, now, after Living in those two places, South Africa, Nova Scotia (my current real home) and here in Australia (as of July 2005-June 2006 then returning to Nova Scotia) I still want one. Still something sporty. So I the time for it draws nearer.

I won't get one 'til I go back to Canada which will be next June but I think about it now more then ever.

That's pretty much my story and I honestly hope if read through it all you weren't too bored :)

So, as for my questions and concerns...

Like I said, I've always fancied the sportiness in something like a gsxr600, r6 or a 599. Not crazy about the naked bikes. Probably won't purchase one but I still have a soft spot in my heart for them.

Well, I would like to hear everyone's opinions on whether or not it's safe to start with something like a gsxr600.

And of course it's all relative. I'm about 5 10 and 170 lbs. Average? Little bit above. Physically I'm quite fit, excellent reflexes etc. I'd be almost 17, not much difference as years riding is what creates experience not just years, but to some extent there could be a bit more general wisdom. (Any huge SW fans like me will argue the "age is no measure of wisdom" but that's another topic for a different day I suppose :) )
I've read lots about the aspects of driving a motorcycle and will continue to do so until next june and I imagine even more after that.

So, what do you all reckon? Is getting something like a 5 year old gsxr600 my own death warrant or are some capable of pushing past the barrier created by thier own mildly less competent generation?

Well, if you managed to read through all of that you are truly admirable and I thank you for your time and guidance.

*smacks self in face* Of course, in my anticipation I forgot to even try searching first.

After further scrutiny it is quite apparent I shouldn't be thinking about a gsxr600 or anything like that for one or two seasons of riding. Damn shame though.

Well, thanks again!
