Yikes! Greenhouse (cage) drivers & cellphones

#1 Unread post by Pongo »

It happened yesterday. I was at a fourway stop. My turn to go and I saw this guy driving his beaten up greenhouse, by the speed he was going it was obvious he was not going to stop. As he sailed through the intersection I could see he was busy yacking on his cellphone oblivious to what was going on around him.
I see this sort of thing quite often. Here in Manitoba it is not illegal to drive and use a cellphone but I gather it is an offence in some provinces.

Ride safe

Thankfully it's illegal over here now (UK) but that doesnt seem to stop all of them- I still see it quite regularly...
Don't give up.

Not now, not soon, not after being continually knocked down.

If you never give up, you can never truly fail.

I wish it would be made illegal here in BC as well. Seems to get worse every day.

I plan to begin a campaign to shoot on sight anyone driving and using a cell phone at the same time. I will need a lot of ammunition.

2 things need to happen here in the US:

1. Make it illegal to drive and use a cellphone.

2. Make it legal for citizens to "enforce" this law as they see fit (aka the oldnslo amendment).

Unfortunately neither will ever pass thanks to the fact that everyone and their dog can't live without the phone, and everyone and there dog are always safe drivers even when on the phone.

Good to see they've got it right in Blighty. I suppose there will always be some who will carry on whatever.

We get the occasional political hot air but nothing comes of it. It seems politicians are more interested in regulating all the fun things in life not bringing in a sensible piece of legislation like no cell phones whilst driving...Oh well!!

Glad to see I'm not the only one with a beef about this.

Ride safe guys and gals

Most of the states are adopting the headset law, that is you can talk on your cell phone but you must use a headset which allow you hands free operation of your cell phone. I think this pretty much solves the problem, if people will actually do it...

I had to move out of the way of a guy tonight as he'd drifted into my lane grrr...

Okay Reason no.3 for wanting a bigger bike is so I can chase muppets that try to kill me and give them a piece of my mind.

or something like that...

Friends of mine have a digicam in their car and make a practise of taking pictures of cagedrivers that use mobilephones...

We like them...

I'm not so sure it solves the problem. I don't think driving with one hand is the big issue. Folks with manual transmissions have be doing that for decades. The problem I see is people who are engrossed in a conversation and not paying attention to what is going on around them.

I have used a cell phone while driving a couple of times (with a headset) and I have the opposite problem. I'm paying so much attention to driving that I can't follow the conversation. Now I just keep it turned off when I'm on the road.

Yeah that's true...I forget which show it was but somebody did an experiment where they observed people on their cell phones driving and not surprisingly the effects were very similar to driving drunk...
