So I bought a Moto Guzzi

#1 Unread post by hidethesky »

I was on this forum about a month ago, and have to say that I found everything I found here to be useful and supportive.
I'm completely new to riding and took the MSF as a 40th birthday present to myself. The course was invaluable, there's simply no way I could have figured some of this stuff out for myself. The slow speed techniques have been especially useful.
I have an anxious wife at home, so the recommendation to buy a bike for just one year and then trade it in for something better next year, was never going to fly. Whatever I bought was going to have to last me for a long time.
The moment I sat on the Moto Guzzi Breva 750ie I knew I'd found my bike. Everything just fit. I drove it home 60miles from the dealership through near stationary rush hour traffic, and a few miles of gravel construction zone. I've taken it out to my Saturday morning college class, a 60 mile roundtrip, a couple of times now and am very very happy with it. I especially like that it's easy to ride in slow traffic, I guess I'll get around to riding it fast eventually. My big worry has always been that the bike will get away from me, but the Breva's power comes on very smoothly and it's definitely help build my confidence.
It's a quirky design, and that might not appeal to everyone, but It works for me.

Yeah the Guzzis V-twin should have a much broader powerband than a 4 cylinder. Makes it a lot more commuter and new rider friendly

The Breva 750 and 1100 are both gorgeous bikes! Good choice!

I really like the looks of the Breva. I'm hoping to get a test drive on one in the Spring. The local dealer had sold his only model the day before I showed up snooping around. He said he'll definitely have one next Spring around riding time.

Guzzi's are nice bikes, just be prepared for the high service costs, especially for valve adjustments.

The breva has Hydraulic valve adjustors

Ooooh Aaaah, nice choice. Guzzi's are underestimated. When I got back on the tar full time, I had the SP1000 and loved it. That low down grunt that all Guzzi's have is impressive and they handle better than they look. You got to hand it to the eyties, that bike is a classy looking machine.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

Sweet bike. I really wanted a new Nevada, but the local dealer sold his last one a few days before I showed up to touch it... He's not ordering any more until after October 1 because he wants to see what kind of pricing he'll get on '06 models or if they'll continue a promotion they had on '05 models. But even if he ordered on Oct. 1, he wouldn't get stock for another 30-90 days. Unfortunately, I couldn't wait that long. Ah well, perhaps for a second bike. I guess for now I'll stick to my Italian cars for the "pasta" fix.
