Just wanted to introduce myself. I go by the nickname of Bud. I just bought my first bike. A 1983 Kawasaki KZ650 for $400. I've ridden bikes before just never owned my own. So far I've bought a shop manual for it and a new battery. I've disassembled and cleaned the carbs. Repaired a couple of wire connections that were just twisted together. And my reward for all that is a bike that will idle at half choke and dies when any attempt to give it some throttle is made. As a side note, you can rev it up if you give it a shot of starting fluid. Then it returns to idle again. Any suggestions? I'm trying to fix this myself as money is tight. However, still excited about having my first bike and can't wait to get it on the road.
Thanks,
Bud1

Welcome to TMW Bud1. You may have a bit better luck in the troubleshooting forums for your problems. There are many people willing to help, and a ton of info on the site...
Enjoy the ride...
It's funny, I was going through a bunch of old boxes and came across a manual for a bike that I had forgotten that I even owned... a KZ440. The greasy finger prints throughout brought back the memories of many repairs, it appears the carburetor section got a whole lot of attention. I'm thinking that's where you want to concentrate with your problems...
