Now ya talkin'.

The language is the only area where I'd call myself a conservative. And that's only because we're going through a phase where English is losing more than it's gaining from the supersonically rapid changes that are taking place.

But don't blame the writer, blame the school curriculums and the corporate culture - which are f***ing the language up.

On the one hand, I'm sick to death of the crappy, meaningless, jargonised language that is pouring out of management schools, and on the other hand, the low level of language awarenes promoted by the elementary and secondary education system. Let people talk how they like - but give them a choice. Show them that there are an amazing number of possibilities for communication in English. Don't condemn them to a language ghetto.

Ummm! Oh sod it! Oz. You'll just have to put up with Dr Dick on his soapbox on this one.

Sometimes the spelling and grammar blunders become a bother for me as well, but one has to realize we aren't all perfect and not everyone thinks as you do. You may very well have a habit which pisses off another but they accept you for who you are. Some people aren't as fortunate in the level of education as others. It's a part of life.

Bottom line, if you can understand what the poster is saying, then step down from the self-righteous pedestal and deal with it. You want to teach spelling and grammar, than become a teacher in school.
Well if you can read it, then you better be able to write it! And maybe if teachers taught, and parents became involved it wouldn't be a problem. Sounds to me like you condone poor grammer and spelling. I hope then go and work for you someday. Bet those job applications you read must be a riot!!!
You sure do assume a lot. Too bad you aren't a foreigner trying to learn the English language because it's one of the hardest languages to learn. And as for accepting spelling and grammar on a message board compared to a job applicant, major difference. But if it makes you feel better, believe what you must. You still need to step down from your pedestal.

I agree with that.

Statistics also indicate those who use the shortcut and abbreviated lexis and jargons on the internet as well as text messaging, are more pertinent to do poorly in the spelling and grammatical department.

Bro I'm not on a pedestal at all, you seem to have a very good grasp of the english language and how it works. I have no problem with people learning the language and using it correctly. I have no clue where "foreigners" came into the picture because I sure didn't bring it up. All I know is if I went to a foreign country for any length of time I had damn well better learn the language that they use if I think I'm going to be able to communicate efficiently. And I'm sick of people coming to this country not knowing the language and expecting us to accomidate them!! I think alot of foreigners have a better grasp of the language than many of our own citizens. I guess you have to want to learn if you are going to learn and if you don't, you won't. So if I can't understand what you are saying because you don't know how to spell, just who's fault is that?

First of all, it's "accommodate"... One who complains about others on a specific issue should really make sure their own actions are perfect with that issue. Since none of us are perfect, perhaps we shouldn't complain.

Second of all, you mentioned your problem with the "posters" in the forum. We are not discussing the outside world of those living in the US nor discussing job applicants or anywhere else for that matter. We are discussing the "internet". Therefore, please stay on topic.

Since we are relating to the "posters", that entails the internet which extends to the entire world. Since there are no specific rules of gender or racial preferences within this and most sites, anyone who follows protocol is entitled to participate within, as well as the internet world, even if it's origin is based in the US. Therefore, when I specify "foreigners", it means foreigners to the US who are not "visiting" or "living" in the US, but who may have knowledge of the English language with some degree of difficulty in which they can still provide enough comprehensional aptitude of logic, which then, makes them welcomed to participate.

Another thing, you mentioned "proof reading". Consider heeding your own advice since your error above as well as your signature of improper grammar with "your" instead of "you're" appears to make you a hypocrite.

Yes I mispelled one word. My apologies for my mistake. Oh and can you please find "comprehensional" for me in the dictionary?

Directory Search Results We did not find results for "comprehensional"

I don't know why you want to keep making this a personal attack on me. Quite frankly I've stated my point and you've stated yours. Don't you think it's time to let it go and move on to something else?

 But I'm not the one whining about other people's spelling and grammar. But, it was spelled correctly.

You have a trivial complaint about spelling and grammar and I have a trivial complaint about hypocrisy.

I'm finished.
