So I was wondering, the "reserve" postion on the petcock, is it the same as the "prime" postion, in that it doesn't need a vacuum?

No. "Reserve" is the same as "on" except that it pulls from a lower straw in the tank to get the rest of the gas that "on" can't get.

Don't run around on reserve unless you have to. Reserve is your bikes way of saying, pull over in the next 40-50 km and fill up, or I'm going to screw you over!

Yup. Reserve is a smaller tank (about 3/4 gallon) that will get you further along the road should you happen to run out of gas you can probably at least get to another station while running on reserve.

When you fill up, don't forget to fill up your reserve and your regular fuel tank, else next time your reserve will be empty and you'll be walking.

There is no reserve tank. It's one tank. The "on" setting pulls gas from a tube that's longer (and thus sticks up higher in the tank) than the one used with "reserve". Once your gas level drops to the top of the "on" tube, it can't get any more gas and you need to switch to reserve to start pulling from the short tube. Then you need to go get gas asap.

If you forget to switch from "reserve" to "on" after you fill up, the next time you run out of gas, you're out of gas!

Think of it as two straws stuck into the bottem of the tank up from below that suck gas from above. So basically when you're on regular it pulls from the top 10 liters or whatever yours is. When you switch to reserve it pulls out of the bottem of the tank. Better hope you find a filling station before this happens.

Does your bike really have a separate reserve tank? I don't think I've ever seen one before. What kind of bike is it?
