BATTERY WONT CHARGE....

#1 Unread post by eBay »

I have a Gilera Runner 180cc Automatic Scooter and i havent used it or turnt it on at all for about 2 months. The last day i used it, i activated the alarm and immobiliser which has now 100% drained the battery of eveything it had.

I bought a battery charger, connected it up, and teh charger is saying "Battery Very Low or damaged", its been liek this for abotu an hour or so.

If i leave it for a while, like a couple hours or so will it start charging or should i just get a new battery? thanks

Leaving it on the charger, in this case, shouldn't do any harm. However, I would suggest that a new battery is in order. Batteries do not like to be left in a fully discharged state for any length of time and will typically not accept a charge (or at least a full charge) afterward. Let us know if it does come back to life.

As paul says. I've knocked out two batteries in the last eighteen months because I keep forgetting to turn the trickle charger back on when I get back home from holiday. :frusty:

What I've done in the past is prep the battery to take a charge by giving it about 5 mins on boost, that's if your charger has that feature, then see if it will take a normal charge. Even if this does work in the interim you may well be looking to replace the battery fairly soon, might just get you out of a bind.

ok, tahts for the responses, i have had it on all day and its still saying very low/damaged. you see, i cant start teh bike without a battery as teh alarm/immobiliser is on and i cant turn it off without the battery. i guess i will get a new one. no way i can save this one so i can at least get the immobiliser off. i dont think mine has a boost feature. thanks
