Crap kickers

So I need some boots and am completely lost as to what I am looking for. I've heard that something covering the ankle is sufficient. If that's all I need then could I just use some Dr. Martins boots or are there other qualities that I should be looking for that could change the type of boot I should be looking at?

Doc Martins are fine for walking around. If you're looking for riding boots, however, you are going to want a boot geared to riders. Oxtar and Sidi are a couple of expensive but high-qaulity boot manufacturers out there. Check out what newenough.com has, what your local shop has and what your riding buddies have and see what you like/dislike. I have also heard military-issue boots can be acceptable for riding.

Are they not good enough because they aren't sturdy enough at the ankle, don't go high enough, not flexible enough. I guess I am just trying to understand the qualities of a good motocycle boot.

I ride wearing $30 Stanley workboots purchased from Payless. They're comfortable and they go high enough over the ankle to protect it. This has been tested

once when my back tire slid out on some gravel and my foot was pinned underneath briefly while the bike slid. Granted it was a low speed tumble, but the shoe did it's job.

For basic riding you just need something that has an oil resistant sole, covers the ankle fully and doesn't have low laces that you could catch on your brake or pegs and cause you to have an embarrassing laydown at a stop sign. I just wear Durango square toed boots with a rubber sole. I don't like the looks of most 'motorcycle' boots for the parts of the day when I'm not on the bike.

I wear military flight boots, or side zipper dress boots I prefer the military ones for comfort, support, firmness on the toe for shifting, and anti-slip.

For years I wore Welllingtons or Engineer boots . The boots I am currently using my wife found some where . They are lace ups and I wrap the laces all the way around and tie the ends in square knots . Works for me .
Next pair will be different especially if I don't have to pay for them......

Am waiting on a clothing allowance from my physical/vocational rehab .

i use doc martins i rekkon they very comfy and look good to and not limited to just riding with them
