MSF course...done!

#1 Unread post by kabob983 »

Just finished my MSF course here in AL. I only lost 3 points on the riding section (1 mistake...didn't roll on the throttle enough out of the last turn on the curve test). Feels pretty good to have passed it. That was my first time ever riding a motorcycle, although I've ridden a ton of bicycles and drive a 5 spd car, so I think I had a good idea.

After taking it I highly reccomend taking a course to anyone who's new to street riding, especially if you're not sure if motorcycles are right for you. Definately an eye opener. We actually had a girl who didn't come back today. Yesterday she said she simply didn't enjoy it. I guess motorcycling isn't for everybody, good thing she found out now than after she dropped lots of $$ on a purdy new bike!

Congratulations - here's to a long life of safe riding. Too bad your classmate is giving it up. Did you talk to her? I think riding for just about everyone gets a good deal less scary pretty darn quick.

I agree. That's one case where a really small bike like a 125 eliminator might have salvaged one more potential rider, at least in the parking lot. Oh well, good luck to you, though...and congratulations!
Ride safe...God bless!

Congratulations! I missed the same points for the same reason on my test.
At the time I thought, big whoop, but I soon came to appreciate the importance of getting on the throttle and pulling out of my turns. It gets better and better with practice. Enjoy yourself!!

Cheers,

She WAS on a 125 Eliminator...She wasn't riding poorly or anything, she just didn't enjoy biking.

Congratulations on passing. :jump:

I felt pretty good too after learning from scratch at the MSF, in the past month I've come to realize that I was mostly qualified to ride in a parking lot! The street is a different (& dangerous) world where car drivers are usually nuts. I haven't had any '"pee" in my pants' moments, but I've definitely had to be careful.

Went on my first longish ride yesterday down by the ocean. Nice getting up to speed 55+mph but it sure gets windy on a naked bike!

As for your classmate, we had a guy do exactly the same thing. He was a good rider on Day 1, but just didn't like it. Guess it happens.

Trust me, there'll be lots of parking lot time before I hit the street...I've just got to figure out what bike to get and how to make it not cost an arm/leg...
