No spark?

#1 Unread post by Yamaha650 »

I have no spark on my 1985 Yamaha 650 Maxim. Are there particular problems with this normally? Should I get a new Distributor? Any ideas of how to test this also? Thanks!

Did the bike have spark before or did you buy it this way?

I got the bike this way. the gas tank was rusty, so I got it blasted out, and now I go and try to start it, and there is no spark. I replaced the fuses and fuse box when I got it. The "start" button doesn't work however, it's broken. So unless there are mid-wire fuses somewhere I can't seem to find, i'm confused.

The kill switch is in the "run" position. So the way i'm starting it is by connecting the two posts on the starter soleniod. I know you aren't supposed to do this, but it should still spark, i've had to start my boat many times this way. Any ideas on where a fuse might be that could solve this? I've got brand new spark plugs, and I know there is power going in and out of all the wires on the fuse box because i've tested it.

I'm stumped!
