Thanks guys, but No one has really given me a straight forward answer on wether I can ride alone or not.

Sevulturus hinted at that I couldn't, but I just want be sure before I go and purchase the bike. And I do plan on taking an MSF coarse, does that certify me to ride alone while having my motorcycle permit?

*Note: I do not have my drivers license, only my restricted. I get my drivers License in May.

Thanks :)
In Florida you can get a motorcycle learners license, with that you can ride alone. It allows you to practice riding until you take your riding exam at the DMV. It is separate from a typical operators license.

So all I have to do is take a MSF coarse and/or get my motorcycle learners license from the DMV, which is a written exam and I can ride completely alone?

Did you do this?

Or how do you know?

Lol, sorry for bother, but I'm sure you know how it is to be told a million and one things by different sources. I still havent been able to get in contact with the DMV = / guess I just have to show up there.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.

Lol @ Sevulturus, I used to blade a lot when I was younger, now I ride my bike (not a motorcycle, an actual bike) pretty much everywhere, and take the bus for the longer trips. But yuh, in florida, nothing is all that close, transportation is a must.

I'm really regretting giving up rollerblading for motorcycling now that I've started skiing again. What used to be good solid muscle is now... not so strong :p And it HURTS! LoL
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

lol, ever try snow-boarding? Snowboarding = Some of the best times I ever had. Yes, ur probably saying, "Umm no, there's no snow in miami" lol, but I just moved down here a few years ago and still go visit family up north in the winter every other year or so.

I never tried skii'ing though, I was told snowboarding was harder and it looked cooler, so that's what i got into.

I roller bladed for YEARS, and never ever grasped the whole breaking concept? I just use the side of the skate, does anyone else do that besides me and my buds? LoL

Uppin the post for an answer from a FL cyclist, and to talk about Sevulturus' old school rollerblading techniques. lol

I've been skiing since I was six, and rollerblading since I was 10. I cannot imagine ever switching to snowboarding. Even if it does look cooler. It sure seems colder, looks like you guys spend most of your time sitting around waiting to do something :D Haha! That and you need to take off your boot every time you go up, and it looks crazy hard to move around a flat surface on those things.

Don't forget you guys scrape all our nice soft powder down to the bottem of the hill. Totally ruins it for the skiers. Darn snowboarders! Then again you guys outnumber us on the hills now.

As far as rollerblading goes, I'll drag a toe to bleed off speed, or cut sharp turns left and right to do the same. I'll use the brake if it's an emergency, since those things wear out pretty fast and are not cheap to replace.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

lol, i think ski's have more manuverability (if that's even a word), and yes, u have to unbuckle yourself all the time which is a pain = /

But unbuckling is WELL WORTH IT once u go down a 400 foot hill covered with ice :)

lol, hittin like 40 to 50....

I quit rollerblading once I got into bmx bikes... I raced my buddies car the other day, I hit 45 on my bike... I love speed on 2 wheels = D, thats why i think a real bike with some horsepower is the way to go for me.

Sevulturus, would you recommend the Ninja 250 for a beginner? I read the other post and everyone is saying "it's too small, blah blah blah, you'll grow out of it"

I'm not tryin to look super cool, or trying to impress anybody, just want a good learners bike that i can learn how to ride SAFELY in, because that's the most important thing to me. I've already sat on the bike, feels great. What do you recommend? I'm about 5'7, 5'8... 150 pounds (i still have a lot of my rollerblading muscle unlike SOME PEOPLE, lol) if that makes a difference.

Thanks :)

I already had my auto license, I went down and took a written test to get a motorcycle permit. With that permit I was able to ride solo. After riding enough to learn I went down one morning and took the riding test.

Here you go, strait from the web page.

Obtain a motorcycle (temporary) "Instruction Permit" restricted to "No Passengers".
Must be 21 years of age or older
Hold or obtain (at least) a Class E driver license.
Pass the motorcycle knowledge test.
The passenger restriction is removed upon successful completion of the skill test or upon successful completion of the motorcycle safety course.

If you're set on a sports bike ex250, or ex 500 whichever fits the best.

Muscle makes very little difference in handling a bike to be honest. Finesse is a lot more important then brute force. I'm not particularly large or strong and I got along just fine on a small cruiser, and a medium standard/sportbike.

I'd pick a sportbike of 500cc or less or a cruiser of 800cc or less for someone your size. To start on at least. Put a couple thousand miles on one of those and you would probably be okay to move up to a bigger bike.

The important thing to remember is that the smaller bikes are more forgiving of the mistakes I made and you are going to make while you learn. There's a thread somewhere up at the top of this forum that explains it pretty well.

Definitely = D

I honestly think I'm just going to just purchase a dirt bike and get used to going fast on 2 wheels and take me MSF coarse in december. Then save up money again for a Ninja 250.

Would you reccomend getting a dirt bike? Or would that be a bad decision/waste of money to only have it for 6 months until I get my bike license? Know anything about good dirt bikes?

Lol, I'm about to head to bed soon, so if i dont reply, goodnight Sevulturus, I gotta get up at around 6, but i'll more than likely stay up til your next posting = )

Thanks

Some people recomend Dirt Bikes, some don't. It'll teach you a lot, but at the same time a lot of it won't carry over. I've never ridden a dirt bike, though I'd like to, so you'll hve to prevail upon someone more experienced then me.

Geoff, or BuzZz spring to mind, but I'm sure there are others.

Night.
