Last year in Alberta insurance companies posted something like a quarter billion dollars in profit.
CEO ferraris and 50 story buildings are expensive.

Then again that profit may not be alot when you look at other businesses...what was McDonald's profit last year? Microsoft? Oil (ugh) companies?
I beleive the population of Alberta is just under 3 million people... Think about that. And I was WAY off, it was a 1/4 billion profit in the firust quarter. Here:

EDMONTON (CBC) - The announcement that the insurance industry made a net profit of $2.63 billion last year stirred up more debate about auto insurance reforms at the legislature Tuesday.

"2003 was a very good year for the insurance industry,"

After all their payouts the insurance companies in Alberta were up 2.63 BILLION. On 3 million people.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
