Winning the war on terrorism--US style

#1 Unread post by oldnslo »

In our never-ending quest to curb terrorism, the US govmt. announced that anyone traveling to Canada, Mexico, or the Caribbean will be required to have a PASSPORT to get back IN to the US. Previously, photo ID was adequate.
I'm definitely gonna sleep better tonight knowing this......

I know this is basically a "who cares" kind of thing, but the people who claim to be protecting us seem to have strange priorities. Our borders are open in thousands of places, and we're bugging legitimate travelers for passports? Hahahahahahah!

For a 'free' country, the U.S. is a very exclusionist and isolationist place. They seem to want to keep out anyone with real, marketable skills... yet welcome anyone who can't speak the language and has no benificial job skills..... how many burger flippers and corner store clerks do yall need, anyway?

It's a damn strange thing, and I've wondered at it for years. We open our doors to every imaginable social parasite, even paying them once they get here, and many of our naturalized citizens go hungry or homeless or both. We as a country should have our collective picture beside the word "hypocrisy" in every dictionary. The govt lies to any and all who will listen, especially to us citizens.

It could always be worse, John. You could have our policies instead. Every person you guys down there turn away is more than welcome here. And we'll give 'em 5 years tax-free, welfare and healthcare to boot. And just so they don't feel homesick, we will pass laws to make Canada just like the shithole they wanted out of.....

MMmmmm taste that? Yep, that's bitter.

Who knows. We may have another election in the near future with the recent Ad Scam Testimony. But wait!! Canadian news agency aren't allowed to report on the testimony due to a publication ban. But someone was brave enough to publish it. How did politics become so corrupt?

Even worse, I don't know of anyone who has come up with a workable solution, so the situation just gets worse and worse.
I don't know if oil is part of it, but money and power sure is. All of the time. It's too bad the govt isn't willing to work this hard at doing right by Americans, and it's too bad we citizens don't have the collective balls to hold the govt accountable.
Maybe we could hold interviews by a panel of everyman judges for people wanting to lead our government, much like American Idol auditions, whittling the numbers down to people we think may be suitable, put them in office via popular vote, and live with the consequences. We would probably do as well as we are doing now.
George kind of reminds me of a lower-intelligence William Hung, and probably wouldn't make it past the first round......

I think most citizens would be completely overwhelmed and just do what their advisors tell them to do.

(Hey you're right, it would probably be about the same ....)

Advisors? We citizens, now empowered, don't need no stinkin' advisors.
Do Randy, Paula, and Simon have advisors? Noooooooo! It's just two out of three and the person passes or goes home. We could do the same with most anything in government. Go to war with Iraq? If it doesn't get two outa three, there's no war. It may not even get discussed. Isn't it simple? We should do every damn thing in our lives like American Idol.........can't stand Ryan, though, the weenie....
