the general advice given here is to stay away from racebike replicas when choosing a 1st bike.
R6 and gixxer 750 are race replicas.
anyway, go to a dealer. they should have good used bikes there.
if you're gonna buy from a private owner, bring a mechanic w/ you to inspect the bike.

Well... read the stickies for sure. Im bored, I guess Ill post one more. A person could rationalize getting a race rep 600, if your really good at rationalizing poor judgementsthompskm wrote:i go the chance to ride my cousins bike a few times and am looking to buy a yamaha r6 or gsx 750 being its my first bike that i will own, i think a smart thing is to buy used...any ideas on how to look for used bikes...i dont trust ebay... i live in northern NJ in Morris County helpful pointers would be greatly appreciated

On to the topic-
I'd eBay it if i were you. Also another good alternative is CycleTrader.com or the magizine,

I'm sure there are some good experiences from ebay buyers on here... but I've also heard lots of bad ones. I personally wouldn't buy a non-new bike unless I could see it at the least and hopefully start it up and take a ride.nike_soccer wrote:Ironic...VermilionX wrote:the general advice given here is to stay away from sportsbike replicas when choosing a 1st bike.

You might have a hard time finding a used bike in NJ/NYC metro area; we actually had a post on that topic just a short time ago. I would suggest craigslist, I have friends who got their bikes from the site and you can go check them out in person usually. As for eBay if you use the search parameters to limit results to within 75 miles or so, usually you can talk to the owner/seller to go look at the bike in person. This eliminates much of the concern for me so I don’t mind eBay so long as I can see bike in person.
