1st time hitting 65mph...

#1 Unread post by VermilionX »

so my friend told me of this big road that isn't very busy and has a speed limit of 50mph. it has curves but not very sharp and it even has uphill downhill portions. did a couple of runs over there today. i'll definitely go back there some other day. it was fun. :D

however, kinda scary since the wind was definitely stronger than usual. i can really feel the bike being pushed on one side so im leaning to counter the wind. and also, im already leaning forward against the tank bec of the wind pressure.

im definitely improving. im a lot more relaxed on my bike so my arms doesn't hurt like before. i also feel like my gear changing from 1st-2nd has improved a little. however, im still not 100% comfortable w/ my boots. it still sometimes gives me trouble shifting up.

on my way back home, there's another sportsbike rider on the other side of the street, he extended diagonally his left arm when he saw me. was the rider just waving? or does that gesture mean something?

weeks ago, somebody did that to me but it was bec my turn signals are on and i forgot to turn it off. however, my signals were not on this time and i was stopping for a red light.

Returning a wave when either accelerating or deaccelerating has always left me feeling like and certainly looking like some uncoordinated dufous :P

Whats more important is making the effort, unfortunately some don't even when their just cruising along with a hand free.

heh first time i got up to highway speeds i didnt really mean to. was one of those, dang this throttle goes back awfully far.... glance down , oh. so Thats why the speedo goes that far up.

And yea, i hate gettin beat around by the wind. still makes me nervous. lotsa coal trucks on the back roads, and the highways are full semi's. the forward push of air from a big dump truck gives me fits, but at least its over soon. getting caught behind a semi feels to me like riding a unicycle on a greased slipn slide.

im not yet past my break in period so, it'll be a while before i try higher revs and experience that "dang this throttle goes back awfully far" moment. plus i wouldn't try it alone w/o supervision. i bet the front wheel will lift at higher rpms.

my bike doesn't need a lot of throttle to move fast though so it's all good. i can keep my speed up w/ minimal throttle use.

Ahhhhhh, the benefits of riding a 700lb+ bike! Not even semis or the strongest cross winds upset the chassis, unlike my NightHawk.

Doesn't really matter how you wave, just that you do wave.
Have fun on the open /¦\
