the gixxer1000 05 and 06 are even better than the older gsxr1000s since it now has more cc and a little lighter than older models.

i read the top speed is around 180mph. so yeah, im definitely not gonna red line it even after my break in period.

i would like to try it in a controlled environment though but i wonder how many miles would it take to reach my bike's top speed.

About the only remotely safe place to "see what she'll do" is the track.

My CX500 is supposed to top out around 110, though with its wimpy brakes I have no intention of testing this out.

yeah, i was wondering about that.

tracks usually only have ¼ mile and then some xtra space to stop. i doubt that's enough distance to reach top speed and still have room to stop.

You could also take it to a drag strip. You might not hit top speed, but you will definately get up into triple digit velocities. Also a good place to practice launching your bike. Getting a sportbike moving off the line FAST takes practice to keep the front wheel down/

im not really a big fan of drag racing but yeah, fast starts is important even for circuit racing (the one im interested in).

my sister's BF said there's a drag strip around here that's cheap to rent, you just take turns w/ others like most tracks.

however, there's a rule that if your car/bike can finish a quarter mile in less than 10 secs or something, you must have a racing lic. i wonder how they prove this... anyway, i don't think my bike can finish a ¼ mile in < 10 secs or could it?

technically your Gixxer could probably break into the 9s, but only a very skilled rider could probably get that out of it.

Fast starts are a good thing to be able to do for street riding too. Sure beats getting rear ended.

yeah that's thing though, i can't yet do it < 10 secs but accdg to you, my bike can. so this means i can't practice there.

Doesnt that tell you something Vermilion? A NHRA Competion License is required just to run your bike at a local drag strip... That is way too much bike for a beginner (and most people).

And yes, I have seen people on your bike running mid 9s at the strip around here. Even the complete noobs were able to keep it under 12 seconds (horribly "slow" starts... or they would accidently wheelie, slow down, then go slower.. and still run a 12 second quarter... it is insane).

I'd get a slower bike to practice on imo... Especially if you want to get into circuit racing.

BTW, up to 75mph on my Alphasport GV250, it had quite a bit of revs left, but the speed limit was 65mph.

On my 79 Kawasaki KZ650 I've been up to 85mph indicated. Should go about 115?

actually i don't have to get a slower bike... this school will provide the bikes for me to learn the basics. :D

it's way cheaper than most track schools. im glad i found this from another forum.

You sound like a prime candidate for the salt flats. Speed and little to no brakes are the rule there
