First day out...

#1 Unread post by sucka.please »

Man I am hooked! Finally got a chance to get out on the road and had the time of my life.

I spend the first ~2 hours in a neighborhood getting used to the throttle, gearbox, and  drum brakes. Spend the next 2 hours on arterial and FM roads.

Logged about 55 miles!!

I had a few mishaps ( had to brake during a turn ), but I didn't let them affect the rest of my ride. Good times.

Any other first day stories??

nothing too exciting...

just went to local blockbuster but forgot to bring a bag. tied the plastic bag to the back seat.

at some point, i was about to make a right turn, waited for a clear road even if cars are too far. there's an SUV behind me but didn't care, i had to play it safe.

went home safe. 1st time too that i reached 50mph.

that's about it.

my first day riding wasent on my bike. I was stupid to do it looking at it now. I had practically no exp and was riding a klr650 around my block. Was doing alright till a kid walked into the street. I hit the brakes, hit the front brake too much and ended up doing an unwanted front wheelie and almost wrecked but managed to get my foot down on the way down to stop myself from falling. First day on my current bike was the ride home and i loved it. There is a post somewhere talking about it, basically the normal "oh man this is awesome" feeling you get when you have your first ride.

My first ride on the road was only for twenty minutes on the lesson bike from the motorcycle school.
Up until that point we had been only in a parking lot and I still had doubts as to whether this was right for me.
That changed as soon as we went for a ride. It was dark, pouring rain and I had a smile from ear to ear. I knew from that first lesson ride it was the right thing to do.
11,000km later and I'm still glad I did it.

my first day riding was right after i signed all the papers etc, i took it for a 10-20 minute spin....

place i bought it from was 50 miles away and had to take freeways, (i only had a permit).......

it was really fun, i remember talking to myself in the helmet "sh*t ya, this is soooo tite..." i was havin the time of my life....but i was horrible at turns/leaning. dropped it off, next day it was shipped to the ralphs 2 miles away from my house. when and picked it up, had trouble bringing it home becuase engine was cold (i didn't know i'm supposed to warm it up)

anyway, i had a friend with me when we went to pick it up.....i was following my friends car back to my house....he stopped on a very steep up hill so went next to him and i stopped (in the middle of the hill) after talkin for like 10 seconds he continued going up and i tried going up, i had my hand on the front brake, and remember i had NO experience,

i finally got it to go up by gassing it alot by it kept cocking me back and forth & i remember i was freaking out, ended up doing an unwanted wheelie on the uphill which scared the crap out of me....finally got to the top and and the bike stopped.

i don't think it's possible to have a "perfect" first day on a bike.
