ok il almost ready to give up on this bike.....heres the deal now i got the bike runing now somwhat ok but my damn petcock has a mind of its own.
If i turn the petcock to the reserve position i can see some gas comming into my fuel filters( they are clear) and they will get a little bit of gas into them and then the gas just stops comming. But as soon as i pull the fuel lines off the nipples on the petcock it pours out very steady and rapidly.
if i start the bike it will stay alive until the gas runs out that is in the fuel filter and line. These bikes are just gravity fed their fuel right?
a new petcock is 50 dollars anyone have any suggestions? i have another petcock that i can use for parts only

i was messing with the bike a little today and poped the gas cap open and that didnt help...so i just did what i always do ,pull both lines off the petcock and hold them right underneath the nipples untill i see a good amount of gas in my fuel filters.
then after about 10 seconds of cranking it fired up and like always i just kept reving it to keep it alive and after about 20 seconds it just bogged out and died (ther fuel filters still had a good amount of gas in them) and i couldnt get it to start back up...this seems to be a pattern after i have it running it wont start back up untill its fully cooled down or it sits for a little while...i think im going to try a new set of points and condenser.
riding season is getting close and i need to get this sorted out and info at all would be great

Your fuel filters are filling up...that's good. But is there good flow coming out of the other end? The filters could be partially blocked. Or the inlet/outlet connections on the filters could be too small and causeing a restriction.....
If your are getting enough fuel out of the filters, are your floatbowls set to fill to the correct level?

With the hoses hooked up and the petcock "on", open the drains on the carb bowls. (Put a container underneath the drain screw). With about 2 turns out on the screw, the fuel should come out steadily. If it is, then the petcock is fine. If not, it may be the floats, the needle valve, the needle valve seat.

well i turned the gas on today and opened the screws on the bowls and after about 4 or 5 turns of the screw i got a steady stream.
i want to just start all over with the carb settings what do you guys reccomend? screw both mixture screws all the way in and then out 1/2 turn?
