went canyon riding today.

#1 Unread post by VermilionX »

so i got my maintenance done and i met a guy who rides an R1. i only knew him online so this was the 1st time i saw him in person. like me, his 1st bike was a liter bike.

so he took me to some scenic roads and then up by mulholland viewpoint we stopped. the view was great i was so pissed that i didn't have a camera. if i only knew this was how my day will turn up, i would have brought a camera.

down the canyon i can see a very nice but not beginner friendly twisty. he(the guy i rode w/) told me that not to take it fast and don't worry if there's other riders behind me.

i let him go ahead so that he won't be bored, i just told him to wait for me at some point.

lot's of hairpin curves... i took it slow, i didn't intend to crash.

i got through it safely. saw some other riders, saw some cool rider hangouts places. it was very fun. i wanna go again, he told me next weekend he'll probably take me again there.

oh and now i can feel that my bike is a beast. i tried reving 1st gear, i stopped only at 7K rpm and my speed was already above 50mph. didn't wanna force it since im just ridng on the streets and not on a highway.

if it's goes like that at 7K, i still have 5K rpm more to push my bike before i reach 12K in which where my power is supposed to drop off.

also, several times at stop lights, i was practicing accelerating hard from stop and boy! i wasn't using my bike's full power but it's super fast already. but i better be careful, i can't afford to get another ticket.

anyway... today was the most fun i had so far on my bike.

i wanna become fast. i need to practice. i want to become a canyon junkie... well either that or trackday junkie.

Mmm sounds like fun. Once you get up above about 9k rpm you'll experience what your bike is truely like. Up to this point you've only been playing around with a fraction of your bikes power.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

50 mph / 7 = 7.14
where 7 is the rpm in thousands

at 12k rpm, theoretically, you'll be doing 85 mph. What's redline again?

redline is at 13.5K-15K rpm.

and my 7K was in the high 50s when i looked. i just don't remember exactly but i think it was around 57-59mph... anyway, i'll try it again some other day.

I always try to carry a camera with me. Below is a link to today's exploration.

But his HP isn't a linear curve. I pops up a bunch just after 9000 rpm.

Right, that speed would have to measured in a void, cause, like you said, the HP drops off and no longer can stand up against the wind resistance. BUT either way you look at it, it's fast at most any RPM.
