With enough potatoes and some enginuity I'm sure you could make an armchair, though it'd be very uncomfortable.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Damper sounds like something an Aussie would have with a kangaroo.

'Aye mate, I damn near got meself in a bloody damper when a kanga jumped out right in fraunt of meh!'

Dampner sounds like...like uh...laundry detergent. Sexy laundry detergent.
