What do you do with your gear at school?

#1 Unread post by moto_hanki »

I have been riding since October. I put a couple hundred miles on a 250 Rebel. My next bike will be ready soon, a '92 xj600 Seca II, and I will be commuting to school as many days as I can.
The problem I see coming up is where to put my gear. There are no lockers and I don't know anyone who will have a private office. I think the Seca has a helmet lock, but what about my jacket and pants. I won't ride without them but they are bulkey because of the armor.

Are saddle bags or hard bags secure enough to leave items in?

Is there a way to roll them or some other method of folding that would make them easier to pack?

And...

I am curios if anyone that wears motorcycling boots finds them comfortable to spend the day in, or do I need to travel with extra shoes?

Thanks
Henri

i have a tail bag i use to bring some school stuff.

i put my gloves inside after i park then i put the straps on the bag and carry it over my shoulders.

i carry my helmet around... this is the only thing that i don't feel comfortable.

i've gotten used to walking w/ my racing boots.

it'd be great if know a place or office i could leave it w/ someone i know but i don't have that.

I just graduated in October. I've never worn riding pants, so that's a bit more gear than I'm used to, but I don't see how it's a problem just wearing the stuff into class and plopping it down when you get in. I had a laptop backpack, a riding coat, and a helmet (sometimes) to contend with and never had a problem.

As far as boots, my Joe Rocket "Orbits" are as comfortable as any pair of shoes I own.

Bants go in the backpack, wear your jacket then throw it over the back of the chair, carry around your helmet and scowl a lot people get out of your way. Oh in if you wear a fullface your gloves stay nicely inside the helmet, I walk around holding it by the chin guard through the visor area. Works really well.

This also means that people can't mess about with any gear you left locked to your bike.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Or just wear your helmet, you can be the 'mysterious stranger' that all the girls adore.

And ah, everyone has already suggested everything I was going to...

2 people (CBRs..1000s) went around the spikes and were riding around in front of the admin office and the instructor's parking area...they both got tickets from the campus police.

back to the original topic...
i just carry everything around with me, i leave my jacket on, and carry my helmet around....

i know places where theyd let me leave it but there is no way in hell i'm letting my $700 helmet out of my sight....

...or any helmet for that matter....someone could accidentally drop and you'll NEVER know about it...(at least not until you crash, and see that the helmet fall apart on impact)

I appreciate the input.

I have a helmet bag, although it does not look as cool as carrying the helmet around by the chin bar, I already scratched my helmet carrying it around the campus. I was just trying to eliminate bags, but I don't think that is possible.

I just didnt want to look like a little walking around with 3 bags all of the time, but that is the price I will pay for good gas milege and a fun ride home.

Thanks
Henri

With the added bonus of your flesh staying firmly attached to your body in the event of a crash.

mmm...

I do enjoy having my integumentary layer intact. Definatley worth it to wear the gear, although I hope not to find out how worth it, it is.

My bike gear is pretty easy to heft around. My gloves go in the lid. I wear my jacket, Bike jeans and boots - no worries...
