I had a feeling this would be coming. They've eliminated all the perks, comforts, food, and other things...now they even want us to start paying extra for soda. And at $1 a can, thats a steep price! (they better give me the whole can instead of that tiny cup!)

Some have TVs, but it'll cost you around $15 to watch it. How long will it be until airlines start refusing to let you bring your own food/drink aboard so their profits dont slide?

I hate flying. But on top of that, nowadays it seems like flying is no longer something fun...its something you have to endure, a horrible experience you go through in order to get to your destination, like being forced to ride in a smelly cab. Seatbelt optional for $5.

American Airlines officials defended the practice, noting movie theaters, for example, profit from the sale of soda and snacks. European low-cost carriers routinely charge for both non-alcoholic beverages and food.
Slight difference... movie theatres you can walk out of if you're thirsty.... and the seat is cheaper too

I think the charging for a meal was a good idea. That way most people who complain about airline food (use to be one of the biggest joke topics in the old days) could opt out. I payed for a lunch on a recent 4 hour flight, and it was not all that bad. Not like a nice resturant, but it only cost me about 5 bucks. On flights less than 4 hours, I don't think they even offer food. Charging for movies or extra stuff might be somewhat sensible. I mean, you are being transported, that is the main requirement of being on the plane. I normally sleep anyway. But if they start charging for soda and coffee, I think that is lame. But I can see the airline industry is struggling to survive. Part of the problem is too much competition. We need far less carriers to make it a value again for consumers.
