Sad Story

Was talking to a friend yesterday that witnessed an bike accident. A young man passed them on the left (no passing zone) and was going to fast when he went into a curve in the road. Lost it, went airborne and landed on his head. The paramedics arrived and when they rolled him onto backboard his legs were limp.

Well come to find out two of his buddies were two cars behind them. Said the young man just finish taking the MSF and just got the bike a 600cc+ Ducati sport bike. Was apparently showing off and paid the price.

Not a good thing.

seriously though, i get some adrenaline rush too but not to the point where i become way too reckless. some people just have no control.

part of the reason why im glad I started on a 500.

the temptation of twisting the right wrist is strong on a powerful machine.

at least on my 500 it does take some effort to get it to seriously illegal speeds. I can wail on it getting onto the highway and it will hit about 75 by the time im ready to merge, same stunt on a 600 and id probably be going 120 in the same time frame

some of you are making it like it's the bike's fault.

instead of saying "im glad i have a 450 or 500 machine."

why not say "im glad i wasn't showing off and riding way above my skill level."

just my thought.

i guess i have a great willpower then...

i actually sat on my bike the other day in the garage and held the throttle like i normally do.

i twist it normally, then twist it more like when im accelerating hard and over the speed limit already.

then, i tried twisting it all the way (which i had to re-position my grip) and my jaw almost dropped... it goes way way more that what im already using at illegal speeds.

i really love my bike!

hope to use it at the tracks or drag strips some day.

I tend to use a fair bit of throttle on my CX, I normally use 1/4 to 1/2 throttle for most street riding and usually full throttle going up on-ramps.

I know had I started on something bigger I would probably still be afraid of the throttle. the nice part of my 500 is it wont give my any nasty suprises should I twist it more than usual, even a 600 can give a good scare if you give it a lil too much.

And most new riders have probably grabbed a lil too much throttle every now and then

i won't lie tho, i do show off once in a while, but only if...

1. i know the area
2. can see far ahead of me
3. it's within my skill level
4. and if the time is right....meaning if i don't see anything dangerous, any hazards...cagers.....etc

P.S. really off topic but....saw V for Vendetta just now...it was over 2 hours long....great movie...definitly A+++
