motorcyles can park on sidewalks, right?

I lost a nice full face Shoei by leaving it hanging on the mirror. Out of my sight for less than a minute. I usually don't use the helmet lock on the bike. Some idiot can always cut the strap and then neither one of us has a useful helmet.

If I have to leave the helmet on the bike ( I usually take it with me) I run a cable lock through the chin piece and lock it to the bike.
I would be the old, slow guy. Just let me know where you are going and I'll try to get there before you leave.

I thought the 'cable lock' type of helmet lock is what we were talking about. My bike does not have its own helmet lock.

A strap connection doesn't seem like it would be worth anything, why bother?

On most bikes that have helmet locks it is usually a small key operated clip of some sort. Many older bikes (where the seat was on hinges) you opened the seat, slid the d-rings into a small bracket (hook) and closed the seat. I haven't seen any with their own cable lock but there may be some out there.
My cable lock stays in the tank bag. At some events where I didn't want to carry my leather coat all day I have also ran the cable through a sleeve on the jacket to secure it.

I really only use the helmet lock when I'm some place where I'm not worried about the bike -- like at a campout, or at a bud's place; then it's pretty convenient. But for around town -- the helmet comes with me. Just can't trust people to be courteous.
