Something like that, I don't seem to be able to find any pictures of it on the net which is a real shame.

These bikes are so powerful and agile that it comes down to non-technical preferences, IMO.

Looks wise, its very close to me; I love the CBR1000 and the R1. I would probably chose the R1 because its more comfortable.

I dont like the 06 CBR1000 because they changed the things I liked about it. It used to be well known as a stable and precise platform for the liter class. Unfortunately, they bowed to the competition and the bike is less stable and more wheelie prone for 06.

none of the above. If it had to have 1000cc I would go for the Aprilla RSV.

if it could be any cc I would go for a BMW K1200S

If money is an issue though that Aprilla or the Ducati 999 is going to be quite a bit more expensive than the Japanese bikes. The 2006 YZF-R1 LE retails for $18,000 too...kinda pricy!

If you really want a V-Twin for the same price range the Honda RC51 would be a good choice (the bike that Colin Edwards won the WSBK championship with 2 times before moving to MotoGP). It's been updated a few times since then too :P
2000 Kawasaki Ninja EX500R (Sold)
2006 Suzuki SV650S (Stolen 4/08, recovered 12/08, sold 3/09)
2004 Suzuki SV650S (Sold)

Being bikeless SUCKS!!!

Well, Verm, if it has to be Japanese it would have to be the R1. I had something akin to a spiritual experience sitting on one of those beasts at a show two years ago. It felt soooo comfortable and sexy (they way I just slid into it - you know what I mean!). As you can see I am very superficial in my bike preferences.

Today, my local dealer offered me a test ride on an Aprilia Tuono. My knees almost buckled at the thought. But the idea of buying an Apilia made me feel unfaithful to the SV. I've still not beaten the old girl down yet. I've got a lot of riding still to do on her, but the problems she has with the electrics and the vibration are getting to me. Can I afford a Tuono or a Mille? No! Would that stop me buying one? Probably not, if I were in the right mood!
