Eating Spark Plugs
My bike is going throuhg plugs like no tommorrow, like maybe 50 kilometers and I need new ones (they are blacker then a black thing in a black place at a black time sorta deal) I have been told by the back yard mechanic who did most of the bigger things on the bike for me that this is normal, due to crap in the lines and tank and engine that accumulated from sitting for a few years, but I have put one tank of gas through the thing and it still mows through these plugs. Should I bring it to a shop and get the carbs re-done? (re jetted? is that the term, carb kit installed maybe?) Also, I notice that one of the plugs usually looks a bit mashed at the end when ever I change them (the little prong is bent in, is this a sign on something horrible?)

Black plugs after 50 miles is a good sign your running rich.
If the plug electrode is making contact with the piston, you either the wrong plug(reach too long) or a biiig build-up of carbon on the piston crown. This is not a good situation. You might have to pull the head and de-carbon the pistons......
