as you all know my bike was stolen. this will have a very drastic effect on my riding life.

i was using my bike for everything. be it a simple trip to buy something or shop around, commuting to work and school, spending some twisty time in the weekends, whatever the reason... i like to ride whenever i go out for something/anything.

but now... when i get the next bike, i'll probably only be a weekend rider.

i'll be too paranoid to park it anywhere that is not closed and guarded.

Why not get a less-targeted bike for most trips and have a "nicer" bike for weekend excursions?

Better yet, save your money, buy a 250, ride it until you can corner with the 600 RRs, then find a track bike. Much safer than what you were doing before.

Get better security, get a beater to commute on, get moe insurance, but dont ride less!

I agree...just get some simple security, or buy a less theft-worthy bike. Bikes are great daily driving commuters - dont let one theft get you down.

How did it go with the insurance company btw?

i will install a security sys on the next bike but still... i don't wanna go through this again. i will try to install lojack for the next bike. hopefully, there's somebody here in LA that offers that installation on bikes.

and i really don't wanna get a bike that is not desirable. i love to ride. it's not everything to me but a big part of enjoying the ride is enjoying what i am riding.

and yes, i've tried riding cruiser bikes already.

if it's free then i don't mind having a beater bike. but if i will spend my own money, i'd get something that i'll really enjoy.

they're supposed to call me anytime now to get a recorded statement, then i'll ask details on how they will handle the settlement after the statement.

Yep yep. Don't stop riding often, just because of something like that. Even if your next bike does get stolen, it would be better to ride everyday and have it stolen after a while (you kinda just got really unlucky with your last bike), than to have it sit in your garage all week and only get to enjoy it on weekends (and still have a chance that it will get stolen). If you're that worried about it, get a cheap crappy bike, riding that everyday is better than riding a nice bike only on the weekends.

If you really love riding, I dont think you would stop just because you couldnt have a specific kind of bike.

I dunno, if you only want to ride if you can have a fast sportbike, maybe this is a good time to sit down and think whether you really want a bike at all. Might be a good idea to get a nice car (which helps for dating!) and wait to get your sportbike again when you are settled down with more money to throw around.

Find something you enjoy that is cheap

I'd say hit up some 80's sport bikes, since they have a lot of potential and are really fun, but you don't seem to be inclined to wrench at all... which might be a problem.

I have a better solution! move out of california... it worked for me. I've never had anything stolen since I moved out of that hell hole...lol

In all seriousness though, what you do is up to you, but I don't let my riding habits get dictated by other people. If your bike is worth a lot, get a lowjack system with multiple transmittors so it can be located easily if stolen. I'd personally get my gun range buddies together and turn their base of operations into swiss cheese from about 600 yards away... but I'm easily upset like that when it comes to my personal property.
