Bout to graduate... moving out, lots of $$$ to save... my truck gets 8 mpg so im getting a bike. i want a nice bike though, just because im buying it for gas doesnt mean i dont want something fast as well. anyone have any ideas as to what kind of bike i should get? i've pretty much narrowed it down to kawasaki, but thats as far as ive gotten.
Thanks
Zack

pretty loaded question and totally depends on personal preference. You seem to want to go fast and you have picked kawasaki. Odd way to make your choice but i would say if this is your first bike get the 500 ninja or the zzr250. both will go fast enough and then in a year or two, trade up. If you can get a used 500 or 250, those are usually in pretty high demand as learner's bikes and you can sell them for close to what you paid as long as you don't drop it a lot.

First of all.....

Second, Have you checked out the Beginner's Guide? There are also stickies and the Learn To Ride A Motorcycle page which is now downloadable in PDF format.
Third, I also recommend an MSF course and reviewing your state/province/territory’s dmv/dot site for licensing information, guidelines and FAQ.
Fourth, Good Luck and Have Fun! I hope you enjoy this site! Be sure to...

Rather than deciding on a brand, you should probably think about what you want to do with the bike and choose the one that will best fit the mission.
I've owned a number of bikes from different manufacturers and have never really come to the conclusion that one mfgr. is generally better than the others.

I've seen a few people on here suggest the 500 ninja as well. I try not to recommend bikes since I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm picking up my first bike in a week or two (will be at the dealership middle of next week).
I hope the sticky topics helped though. There is an incredible amount of information on this site and also a huge number of very helpful and knowledgeable riders.
I'd have been lost without this place when I started looking.
