This isnt directed at you specific Sweet Tooth, more to everyone whos saying buy a car. Why is everyone telling him to get a car? None of you are in his situation or know if one car works for his household so none of you should be saying how he should spend his money. He asked for advice on how to explain that a bike is safe so that his wife would be fine with it. Not your personal opinions on the family vehicle situation.

Sorry if this seems harsh but stay on topic people.

haha actually, pretty much his whole question was how to convince his wife that a bike is a practical choice for a 2nd vehicle. . .

"I am trying to make her see that not only is the gas mileage better but that we dont need 2 family vehicles. She thinks I dont need one because I should get a family vehicle (she being my wife) but we already have one. Our minivan is our family vehicle so why do I need another vehicle for the family when all I plan on doing with a bike is driving ti back and forth to work. then she suggested I just get a used car like a festiva (Like im any safer in a festiva than on a bike) cause it gets the same gas mileage (in her eyes). I just cant make her see that a bike gets like 20mpg more than a festiva."

And Bubba, leave him alone! He's going to get so upset if he ever sees and it will take me months to convince him to go again :P Why don't we talk about your picture or a minute...

I had my bikes before my girlfriend... so they got grandfathered in :-)

When we first started dating, I asked her how she felt about motorcycles... she said "I don't know" and I said "That's not a no... good enough for me!" Now she thinks my bike is "cute". I insisted that it is manly and intimidating! She laughed at me.

I still haven't taken her for a ride though. I might take her out for a short trip this summer.

 My wife after much and long converations about having a bike realized how much it ment to me and actually told me to get one. Well I bought the first bike I ever wanted, it just took me 22 yrs. to get. She doesn't care for this one because it just a bike.(NH 750SC) She says it should have chrome and lots of it .This might mean i get the cruiser i want sooner.
I guess my ramblings is just to make the point that through communication and understanding you both in the end can have what you want .

Stomp your foot and tell her how it is. Holding a beer or pounding your chest will help for extra effect.

Because of my motorcycle, my wife met HER girlfriend... :spot: :woohoo:

Seriously though...I don't know if any of us can answer that question. She just may not accept it, for whatever reasons she has.

Just remember it's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission!!
