Getting a Motorcycle lift/stand

My vulcan has no centerstand and since I intend to do nearly all maintenance on my own I think investing in some sort of stand or lift will be a good idea. I think I'd love to get the craftsman motorcycle jack but my main problem is space. I don't have a garage that could house that thing. I have seen a few stands that look like they may be okay, but I wonder how easy some of them are to use and if they could reasonable balance and hold 450 pounds of bike.

I bought myself a full motorcycle lift for my home. Don't know if this is larger than you were thinking. I got it at Superior Lifts (.com) for $700 with free shipping. The shipping may have been free because I got it delivered at the shop with fork lift access. The lift came with vise and pedal, other places charge extra for these items. Of course you need a decent air compressor. I hated working on the floor at home, so I would not do it. And, being a mechanic, I have a ton of personal projects. Doing it all day long kinda takes the fun out of doing it in my free time. You've got a big girl, so make sure you get one that will support her. And some people complain that their bike has a centerstand...I love 'em!

Just re-read and saw you have no garage, so nix that. I looked at the stand you mentioned. Pretty sure that is for dirt bikes only. Doubt if it will hold your girl. Sorry.

I've looked at various stands and its hard to determine what will work for this bike. There are some rear stands that seem good but are targetted for sport bikes. There is a center stand model from http://www.cyclelifts.com/csonlyhome.html but thats a 115 dollars for a contraption that does not even look like its worth paying that much. I wouldn't pay more than 80 bucks for that thing, and thats high.[/url]

Hi Imp, I bought a motorcycle, ATV jack from Canadian Tire a couple years ago and love it. It lifts and holds my old Harley FXEF ( heavy ) like nothing. I don't know if the Sears model is the same type.

I don't think I would want to try to balance and work on a bike thats on that scissor lift. But if you have no room for anything else you may have no choice.

I actually found one at a Lowes Home Center, rated for about 1,200lbs. Was only about $90. May want to look in to that.

I have it. Works good. Pretty sure it's the same one ZooTech has (guess from pics of his bike on a stand torn down a bit) and his bike ain't lightweight. Comes with two tie-down straps too, so you can really crank on the bike without too much movement. Also fun to jack the bike up in the air, kick it over, and sit there flying through gears. Good way to shake the mud off
