Hi there another newbie....just found the site whilst looking up information on the Ducati Sport 1000. At present I do not have a bike..unless you include a heavily modified CRF50 into an 88cc Pit Bike....and an 85cc KTM that my son does MotoX on......road bike I meant.....I am keen to get the above mentioned Ducati as I am very keen on the whole Cafe Racer scene.....I grew up in London UK and the Ton Up boys were my heros, as a child....later, once I was old enough, I went to Brands Hatch regularly to see Mike Hailwood and Agostini duel it out....a young up and coming lad called Barry Sheene took my notice...he was about my age..a little older.....and later the Yanks arrived.....some guy called Kenny Roberts......of cousre we all knew he would fall off in the rain.....then that Easter at Mallory Park it snowed...and guess what....he won the race....so I guess he could ride after all.....in 1973 I got my first bike a Suzuki T350J....and loved it....by the time I left to go to New Zealand in 1981, I had a Moto Guzzi Le Mans, my all time favourite of all my bikes.
The Guz came to NZ with me and I had a couple of trail bikes for get to work and fun bikes.....then I got married the Guz was replaced by a car and kids.........a long rest from bikes till 1997 when I bought a Suzuki RF600...it was new ..it was cheap....and it was very different to the Guz..a new Honda Fireblade quickly followed which I lavished much money on to customise it to rear sets, clip ons, carbon can, single seat etc.....flash leathers....a pile of speeding tickets......getting rid of this...a GSX1200.....nice and calm....bored.....a Suzuki TL1000 black leathers....yeah thats more like it.....loved it.....then "Dad can I do MotoX?"...."Ask your Mother Son"....she said YES!!!!!!....so one TL and leathers turned into a trailer, riding gear and a KTM 65...then a KX85...and then a KTM85SX.....now he wants a 125.....well I still have my crash helmet....oh and the Pit Bike.....it's mad and has hurt me far more than any bike I have ever had before.......but now I am hankering after something for me.....Triumph Speed Triple appealed for some time...still does...but the Ducati 1000 Sport tugs at my heart strings...it looks right to me....the handlebars point down....it has a single seat and a hump......more black leathers and maybe a Davida Helmet......a bit of nostalga and a lot of fun......well dreams are free.....but maybe this one will come true......nice to meet you all Davey B :dog:

Welcome to a great forum. I am a true newbie (tongue in cheek-- as opposed to your considerable bike history, I have owned my first for just over a month now...). I found this site in March while I was shopping for a bike, and it has been incredibly helpful. I haven't stumped the gurus here yet with my maintenance questions, and there are enough "characters" (to put it politely) that post here to keep it ALWAYS interesting.

I envy that you are in NZ, as I have heard from many folks that it is the most beautiful place on Earth. I've moved around a bit through Europe, the Middle East, and West Africa, but haven't made it anywhere south of the equator yet. One of these days...

Look forward to hearing about the Ducati, or whatever street bike you come down with.
