What is it with the Harlry Davidson image?

#1 Post by King Frog » Thu May 04, 2006 12:00 pm

Harley is MORE reliable today as are FORds and Chevys...BUT the Japanese were ALWAYS ahead in that area and still are.

The buy Ameica "mantra" I hear from Harley riders (with there japanese front ends and more) has the same logic as the "Loud pipies save lives" sticker on the back of a Clamshell or worse helmetless rider.

HD= Merchandising No more no less. HD wants to be the Rolls Royce WITHOUT the associated quality...A pretty place to be....Money for nothing

"LET 'ER RIP BOYS!"
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Not everybody wants to drive at 150 Miles Per Hour...

Some of us would prefer to drive 150 miles.

If you like the rice rockets good for you. But find something better to do with your time than worry about why some of us like Harleys. Some people like SUVs and some like pick-ups... so what.

Harley is about tradition... and a nice long comfortable ride. Have you ever ridden one?

If you have to ask, you'll never understand.

I dunno, there's plenty of people who ride japanese bikes long distance...
Have fun on the open /¦\

There's more to this site than just the message board.

I know, I was surprised too.

I've put 500 miles on my japanese crap in one day. My "O Ring" was a little sore, but I went for another ride the next day with no problems. Not a valid argument.

Okay... and your point is?

Your Ford's better than my Chevy?

To each his own. This is primarily a sport bike forum... And there's a lot of negative talk about Harleys. I hang at several Harley sites and Sport bikes are never even mentioned. Why do so many of you guys (read: some) have such a problem with Harley? Don't like it, don't ride it... But shut up about it already. It's gotten boring.

Shut up and ride!

A friend of mine started his riding career with a Sportster (883, I believe). Hearing him talk about the bike, the culture and the dealers on the east coast is hilarious. He purchased a newer BMW touring bike to replace the Harley, then road the German bike all the way across the States while moving for graduate school.

He likes the BMW far, far more than the Harley, and from his stories, I'd have to say it'd take a steal of a deal for me to buy an HD.

He was just undereducated. If he had a doctorate (especially DDS) he'd understand about harleys.

I sure can't. :D
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

Having owned both, I'm not going to wade into the Harley vs. japanese debate, but I was interested to find out that this was primarily a sportbike forum  If you've been on a sportbike forum, you'd quickly realize that this ain't even close.
