Xena disc lock review

Someone asked me to post a review of Xena dic lock/alarm thingy (http://street-bikes.ridegear.com/cgi-bi ... ?E+scstore). Well, I got it, and already used it couple times. Here are my impressions:

It is what it is: disc lock with alarm. It goes on the front wheel brake disk and prevents the wheel from turning (doesn't fit on the rear wheel), and also starts beeping if you disturb it in any way. The shock sensor is actually too sensitive: I triggered it every time I tried to take the lock off. And of course as soon as it starts beeping you yank at the lock trying to remove it faster, which inevitably takes longer, so the people all around start turning their heads in your direction, so you're sitting there saying "That's ok guys. My bike. Never mind."

When you put it on, it makes a single beep to let you know that the batteries are still good. (Interestingly, it does not make the beep if you lock it without attaching it to the wheel, so it must sense that somehow). It takes *six* lithium batteries (the button type). The replacement battery pack is included. You need allen key to get in there (also included). And it also comes with a carrying pouch which you can attach to your belt with the belt strap.

Obviously it does not lock your bike to any unmovable object, but I don't need that at home or at work, and I can't carry a heavy chain with me when I go out, so this is about the best security I can get. And for $92.29, including taxes and shipping, this is a pretty good invetment.

I have one of those too and haven't had a problem with it. It's pretty small and fits in a pocket (can be a tad heavy in the pocket but what the heck) Now i'm going to look around for a chain / lock thing to use for attaching too.

In summary form - car thieves (crack addicts) drawn to my thief magnet car (1989 Camry)at a shopping centre, and I had misfortune to happen upon them. Hollered at guy to get out of my car from pass side, took knapsack from girl, got knocked to ground by guy but booted him and kept knapsack. Gave to cops when they came - was filled with CDs, couple of stolen full wallets, shanks, break in tools, car stereo, sunglasses, cell phone.... Thieves took off before cops came - all at 6 pm on a weeknight whilst it was still light out. Was plenty mad but had I been another 30 secs (they had the car on), I would've been car-less and nuclear instead of merely enraged.

 The funnier story is when I busted this guy's nose at the ski hill in March cause he came towards me on a blindside treed area totally outta control going UPHILL. I tucked my head and shoulder for the inevitable crash and I must've plowed him in the face. He blasted me a ways into a fence but I was okay, he wasn't.

It 's been an interesting spring. Ooops - your thread's been totally :shooting2: JACKED!

Uh - back to topic - the Xena I have is supposed work on most bikes but I see they have an even smaller one (about 2/3 the size) that fits sport bikes and is even easier to carry around.
