I have a 6 mile commute...mostly at 25-45 mph, leather jacket, icon tarmac gloves, full face, steel toed boots, and jeans (riding pants are in the mail) I've been lucky to walk away from any bail (bmx, mx, mc) fully without injury, superficial or otherwise, so I figure my luck will eventually run out, hell, hitting the ground from 1 meter up going 0 can hurt....

either that or I am unbreakable, and i'm just gonna ride in my joe boxers

My Aerostich Roadcrafter is the best possible commuting gear, in my opinion. zip it on over your street or work clothes, zip it off at your destination. You can't even tell if I rode to work or not. Heck, just yesterday I was wearing shorts, sandals and a tshirt at work, but I was still fully geared (full suit, gloves, helmet, riding boots) when I was on the bike.

Thanks for all the replies to my question. I've read every word of every one of them, have a lot to think about, hope I make the right choices. Thanks!
