There will always be those who are trying to make money.

The best advice is to find a bike that meets your needs and experience level and invest. A motorcycle is an investment. You may have to travel to find exactly what you are looking for. Don't be afraid of eBay.

If it your fist year riding, there is no problem with buying a local bike to learn on as long as it doesn't take you to the cleaners.

Once you have a year under your belt, winter is the best time to buy a moto. They are cheaper and you can find the bike you really want.

Many try to sell their bikes at almost the price of a new one. It depends on the bike though. If after you calculate in the price for tax, etc.. on a new bike and you figure you are only saving a couple hundred dollars you might as well just buy new.

RAther then pay for someone elses' idea of what looks good chromed out and paying over the cost of a new bike or worse ABOVE USED BOOK . KBB and NADA does not give much for add ons. Buy the semi stock used bike and make IT your own over time.

You will appreciate each add on as well you won't be paying extra for add ons you would never consider like maybe a $100 chrome shaft drive cover...or HAndle bar control wrap. Even the "inserts" that go in the back of the sissiy bar pads are $70 !!!! All that chrome adds up and many owners put too much chrome on, and have far too much in a bike. Many are better of putting stock parts back on and selling the Chrome separate.

The only thing worth paying "extra" for over KBB or NADA is a perfect winshield, quality bags, possibly floor boards, new tires, and maybe an alarm or safety equipt like alight bar or modulating kits.

I try to steer clear of ANY bike that has been modified with pipes and carb kits. YOu don't want a bike that has been hot rodded and run at high revs most of its life. Budget for and do that yourself. Someone hot rodding a bike WILL hot rod ON the bike.

Get a "semi-new" stock bike at a good price. PAY for the bike NOT the accessories and you will get a lower mileage bike that most likley has been drivin easy.

IF you can't save at least $1000, preferably $1500, over new for even a year old bike costing $5-7K new Its not worth buying someones elses ride.
