Question on MSF Certificate.
After passing the MSF class on the last day...is that when you would receive your certificate? or do they mail it to you?
Thanks,
VP

Hi VP,
Up here in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, you receive a little graduation card on the same day you pass your MSF driving test. This card is what you use to prove your completion of the course when you apply for insurance. Within 10 working days AFTER you pass your MSF driving test, you will receive a California DMV Certificate of Completion of Motorcycle Training. This is what you need to take, in person, to your DMV in place of taking the driving test at the DMV. Then you take a written test at the DMV (you can also do this before you complete the MSF course in order to receive your motorcycle permit), and you get your license. Make sense?
Go to the California DMV website for practice written tests. They are quite helpful - verbatim examples from the actual exams. If you don't pass the written test at the DMV, never fear, just get back in line and take it again.
Hope this helps,
Janet

In California, the MSF course administrator is required to mail you your DL-389 form. They can't just hand it to you at the end of the class.
Twisted logic, sure, but there's nothing you can do about it. Technically, they have 10 days to mail your certificate. I got mine 4 days after taking the class.

Yes, it stinks. But at least go to the DMV now and take the written test. When you pass, you get your permit (oh, and brush your hair. They'll take a new pic. for your license). Then, after you complete your MSF course and want to start bike shopping, you can legally ride (just not at night, without a passenger, and not on the freeway).
Then, when your certificate arrives, you just waltz in and get your license. Voila!
