Can't breathe

#1 Unread post by snwbrdr »

more air=more bang=morepower. right, so if i could increase air flow then i could potentially increase power. so on myninja 250 im thinking about having my dad fabricating somekind of forward facing air scoop. i know it'll only increase power at speed, but does anyone wanna say something against thisbefore i do it? i know it wont make much of a difference, but im bored and need something to do, plus itll be cool and a turbo would be really difficult.

Please don't do that.

More air is good but it must be balanced with more fuel and a free flowing exhaust. You will simply lean your engine to the point of starvation, making it go even slower.

Mint is dead on. More air only makes you go faster when you have more fuel and your air/fuel ratio is correct. Making simple mods wont improve anything. Something as simple as going from stock exhaust to straight pipes on a bike can affect performance if the carbs aren't re-jetted.

The amount of ram air pressure you'd get with forward-facing airscoops wouldn't even be noticed by your bike. It doesn't move fast enough to create a ram effect.

If you want to move more air through the engine, you need a free-flowing intake path, carb mods to deal with the increased airflow and a pipe that will reduce back pressure. Even after you spend a fortune on all that stuff, you'll only be looking at a gain of a few hp on the top end. You probably wouldn't even notice it.
