Do they take another picture of you for your M1 when you've already taken one for your permit? and when you have your permit, do you have to ride with someone that has their M1 license? Or can you ride alone (in the day time on local streets/parking lot)?

Hi,

Nope, they will not take another photo. Just the one you took when you got your permit. Of course, a lot of people probably take their written test at the same time they come in with their certificate, so they skip that interim step. I just really liked having my permit during that time when I was waiting for my certificate to get my official license.

You do not have to ride with anyone. Your permit only has those 3 restrictions, nothing about having to be accompanied by anyone.

Oh...excellent. So do they just wait to mail you your new drivers license once you submit your DL 389 (so your license will include the M1 class)?

Yes. I got my new license with the M1 endorsement 10 days after going down to the DMV with the DL389. They'll give you a temporary license that's good for two months, so you won't have to wait until your new license comes in the mail.

That would be nice. I'm stuck carrying my paper "temp license" for a year until it's time to renew my regular DL.

Guess it varies by state, but in FL you get it at the end of class.

They already have everyones card printed out even if you failed. When you pass they just call you up one by one, have you sign some paper and enter the ID. You get the card from there.

In MA they give you a card thats good for the discount for your insurance then they mail the dmv your cert and the dmv mails you your license. No need to take a written test :)

Here in SoCal, I took my MSF and they mailed the DL389 and I recieved it about a week later. They also give you a card proving that you passed the class (novelty...only). You can just take your DL389 to the DMV, pay the $24(or $26?) application fee, pass a vision exam, and get a NEW picture then pass the written test and get your temp license. You should get your license "within 4-6 weeks," but I got it in one (went to a better DMV office).

It's actually a joke how easy it is to get a license. I say that without intent to disrespect the MSF, but the process is very easy, there's no reason to fail.
