new 250 or used 500
So summer's here, for me anyways and I'd like to finally on my own bike.
I ound a downed EX500 for $2600, a few scruffs nothing really bad. does have 15k mies on it.
or
I could gi for a brand new 250. I've been ridding my roommates for sme tme now and I think I'm ready for a little more power than the 250. I love how light it is and how i can throw it around so easy but I'm a big guy. now I love the idea of breaking i my own engine but it will be a 250 no 500
any ideas, thoughts, or rants?

I was in the exact same position as you. A few of my friends had bikes and I just borrowed theirs. Mostly because I just couldn't find the right bike at the right price. Then I did and bought one, it's been great! Uhh, (personally) I'd get an EX500 and I'd try and get it cheaper. I bought a 2000 model on Sunday for $1800 (when I got there he wanted $2200). Granted it was a little dirty (dirt washes off) and there were a few easy to fix problems, I'd say you can still go cheaper! He even threw in a bunch of extra stuff. Look around, you can find one cheaper!
And I'd suggest going with a used bike even if you decide 250.

as for the bike, if you feel you can handle the 500, go for it, have a sit and see how it feels. Although a nice shiney new bike that doesnt have any scratches or mystery problems would be nice.....

I've ridden a 500 before, even a 750 (that was a trip) the 500 I can do the 750 I'm afraid of
I'd like a new 500 and that's a option but I think for a first bike that I'll most likely drop or drop once in my life, I would do better with used.
when I'm grown up enough I'll move on from the 500 ad hop on to a new shinny R6 or more comfy 600r

I'm a huge 250 fan for alot of reasons and economy fits into almost every one of them. The only thing my 800 does better then my 250 is accelerate and carry more weight. When I need a speed fix or am riding 2-up i'm on the 800, but in every other situation my 250 is my bike of choice. It was brand new when I bought it and I have loved every minute of it. When you get new you know exactly what you've got.
